The dedication of a child is an acknowledgment by the parents that the baby is a gift from God, and that they want to dedicate the baby back to Him.
The dedication service is not meant to impart salvation to the child, but is a promise by the parents to commit themselves to raise the child for God’s glory and in the things of God. The family is a divine institution created by our heavenly father, and children are gifts of God to parents for care, protection, and training.
Parents have a solemn obligation both to God and to their children to nurture and train their children in the things of God. It is your duty to provide a Christian home and godly environment for the child and see that he/she is taught early the principles of the holy faith; that he/she shall be trained to give reverent attendance to public and private worship of God and the teaching of the holy scriptures, and that in every way, by precept and example, you shall lead him/her into the love of God and the service of our Lord Jesus Christ.
The dedication of a baby is really more of a dedication of the parents to fulfill their role in developing their child spiritually.
